Star gives $1 million to tsunami victims

NEW YORK, Jan. 4 (UPI) -- Actress Sandra Bullock donated $1 million to the American Red Cross to help Asian tsunami victims, the second time "Miss Congeniality" has been so generous.

Bullock, whose "Miss Congeniality 2" is due in theaters in March, also donated $1 million to the Red Cross after the Sept. 11 attacks, the New York Post reported. "Sandra continues to enable our lifesaving work and is a model for personal generosity," President Marsha Evans said of the largest celebrity donation to the American Red Cross since the December tsunami struck Asia and Africa.

"I know this in no way alleviates the enormous amounts of pain and loss experienced by those who have suffered from the tsunami," Bullock said, "but I hope it can make a difference."

More celebrities are expected to help raise money for tsunami disaster relief when NBC Universal Television Group airs a Jan 15. telethon, the newspaper reported.
