NBC has high hopes for 'Medium'

HOLLYWOOD, Jan. 2 (UPI) -- NBC's Jeff Zucker is getting help from CBS/Viacom head Leslie Moonves' Paramount Network Television in the Peacock's new thriller, "Medium."

Moonves, who created NBC's wildly successful "ER" when at Warner Bros. TV, would love to chalk up another NBC success story to his credit while Zucker is anxious to make up for NBC's not-so-great fall showing, Daily Variety reports.

The mixed emotions can be seen in how CBS chose to counterprogram Monday's premiere of "Medium." Rather than air a "CSI: Miami" rerun, CBS will carry an original segment of the crime drama, a somewhat surprising move given the strength of ABC's "Monday Night Football" at this stage of the NFL season.

On Tuesday, NBC debuts the comedy, "Committed," followed by "Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Model Search" on the next night against UPN's "America's Next Top Model."
