GRAMPIAN, Scotland, Dec. 30 (UPI) -- Thieves robbed a small hotel in Scotland's coastal village of Grampian that was made famous by the movie "Local Hero."

The Pennan Inn was featured in the 1983 film which starred Burt Lancaster and people come from all over the world to have their picture taken in the red phone box outside it, reports the Glasgow Daily Record.

Police said the thieves escaped with alcohol, cigarettes and money worth a total of about $3,500 from the coastal village.

"This is a despicable and heartless crime at the best of times - but it's worse by it being the festive period," a police spokesman said.
