Jackson rumored to plan war movie

WELLINGTON, New Zealand, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- The latest rumor about Peter Jackson is that the director plans to do a World War I movie featuring the exploits of New Zealand and Australian forces.

The Dominion Post reports that the move from Middle Earth (The Lord of the Rings trilogy) and Skull Island (Jackson's current project remaking King Kong) would not be a drastic one. Jackson is a World War I buff who owns two replica fighter planes and a tank. He also designed the 1914-1918 section of New Zealand's Aviation Heritage Center.

The paper says that no one official has confirmed a rumor posted on the King Kong fan Website by someone who said it came from a source on the movie set.

World War I has already been the subject of a major Australian movie, Peter Weir's classic Gallipoli, about two young friends caught up in the battle that cost the lives of thousands of Anzac troops.
