'Sideways' gets five LA Film Critic awards

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 12 (UPI) -- The Los Angeles Film Critics Association gave "Sideways" five awards for best picture, director, screenplay, supporting actress and supporting actor.

The ceremony Saturday awarded Virginia Madsen best supporting actress, and Thomas Haden Church supporting actor for their performances in "Sideways," a story of two friends' wine tasting trip to Santa Barbara County.

Liam Neeson won best actor honors for his work in "Kinsey," the biopic of the famed sex researcher, and Imelda Staunton won the best actress award for her portrayal of a cheerful British cleaning lady who secretly performs abortions in "Vera Drake," reported the Los Angeles Daily News.

Pixar Animation's won best animated feature for "The Incredibles" and its composer, Michael Giacchino, won in the music/score category. The kung-fu epic, "House of Flying Daggers," won best foreign film, while "Born Into Brothels," about children born to prostitutes in Calcutta's red-light district, won best documentary.
