LOS ANGELES, Dec. 10 (UPI) -- Showtime is planning a movie about the doomed relationship between Disney chief Michael Eisner and former colleague Mike Ovitz, Daily Variety said Friday.
The paper said the Viacom, Inc.-owned pay cable channel has signed Frederic Raphael to write "Two Blind Mikes." Raphael co-wrote "Eyes Wide Shut" with the late Stanley Kubrick.
"Two Blind Mikes" is described as an examination of the Eisner-Ovitz friendship, which culminated in Eisner hiring Ovitz as a top executive at Disney and went south quickly from there -- to the point where Eisner fired Ovitz.
The Eisner-Ovitz saga has been playing out in recent weeks in a courtroom in Delaware, where Disney shareholders are pressing a lawsuit against the company's board of directors. The suit alleges the board hired and fired Ovitz without taking into account the financial impact of the decisions.
The trial is expected to wrap up in the next few weeks. Variety said the Showtime movie is on a fast track.
