Kanye West gets 10 Grammy nominations

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 7 (UPI) -- Hip-hop's Kanye West led the field with 10 nominations when nominees were announced Tuesday for the 47th Grammy Awards in Los Angeles.

West was nominated for Album of the Year for "The College Dropout" and for Song of the Year for "Jesus Walks." He is also up for Best New Artist.

Alicia Keys and Usher had eight nominations each. Keys' "The Diary of Alicia Keys" and Usher's "Confessions" were both nominated for Album of the Year.

Ray Charles took seven nominations for "Genius Loves Company," his posthumous album of duets with such artists as Willie Nelson, Van Morrison and Diana Krall. The album was nominated for Album of the Year and Charles' duet with Norah Jones on "Here We Go Again" was nominated for Record of the Year.

Punk rockers Green Day received six nominations -- including Album of the Year for "American Idiot." Jones, Loretta Lynn, Prince and engineer Al Schmitt each earned five.

The Grammys will be presented on Feb. 13, 2005, in ceremonies at the Staples Center to be televised live by CBS.
