LONDON, Dec. 2 (UPI) -- Britain's top cop plans to question his country's spymasters about whether the driver in the wreck that killed Princess Diana was an undercover agent.
Scotland Yard Commissioner John Stevens is apparently interested the possibility that Henri Paul was on the payroll of the British security services when he drove the princess to her death in Paris seven years ago, the Daily Mail reported Thursday.
Paul, a senior security officer at the Paris Ritz hotel who was drunk and taking prescription pills just before the crash, died along with Diana and lover Dodi Fayed when his black Mercedes crashed in an underpass in August 1997.
Only Diana's bodyguard survived.
Stevens is leading the probe into Diana's death and his interest in a possible spy connection is fueling conspiracy theories about the tragedy.
