TCU honors CBS vet Schieffer

FORT WORTH, Texas, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- Texas Christian University has honored veteran CBS newsman Bob Schieffer by putting his name on the school's journalism department.

The Austin native enrolled at TCU in the mid-1950s and planned to become a doctor, but the challenges of biology and comparative anatomy steered him to journalism, the Fort Worth Star-Telegram reported.

"This is beyond anything I had ever dreamed of or expected," the 67-year-old moderator of "Face the Nation" said of TCU's new Schieffer School of Journalism. "It's the most meaningful honor or recognition that I've ever received," he told the newspaper.

Schieffer became moderator of "Face the Nation" in 1991.
