Limp Bizkit sued over Aussie girl's death

SYDNEY, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- The family of a teenager killed at a 2001 Limp Bizkit concert in Australia has sued band members and their company, RollingStone.com reported.

Jessica Michalik was 16 when she and 30 other concertgoers were trampled at Limp Bizkit's Big Day Out festival in Sydney. Michalik died after five days of hospitalization.

Police investigated and in 2002 found no wrongdoing on the part of the band. Limp Bizkit frontman Fred Durst told police the band had asked for additional barricades after an earlier crowd rush in New Zealand.

The dead girl's parents, George and Barbara Michalik, have since separated and filed individual suits against the U.S. band and its company, Limp Bizness. George Michalik also sued the show promoter, the stage and barrier company and the security firm hired to work the concert.

The family's attorney said the Michaliks are seeking financial compensation.

"The purpose of the action is to find a degree of vindication," said attorney Michael Short. "It is about completion and finalizing things."
