Ex-nanny sues radio's Don Imus

NEW YORK, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Nichole Mallette of New York, who worked as a nanny for radio talk show host Don Imus, is suing the popular radio personality for wrongful termination.

Mallette said she was fired for bringing a cap gun and pocket knife with her during a Thanksgiving visit to the Imus Ranch in New Mexico.

She is also claiming defamation because Imus said on his radio program he had been forced to "disarm" his nanny, whom he labeled as dangerous and a "terrorist," reported the Web site thesmokinggun.com.

She said she brought the cap gun so she and Imus's 5-year-old son could "play cowboys" at the 4,000-acre Imus Ranch.

Mallette said the 1-1/2-inch pocketknife was never unsheathed from a leather harness affixed to her belt. Mallette alleged she endured "frenzied questioning" by Imus and his wife, Deirdre, who woke her at 1 a.m. She was terminated and escorted off the property three hours later. Mallette had worked for Imus only since Oct. 23.
