Jon Stewart has 20somethings' trust

NEW YORK, Nov. 23 (UPI) -- People in their 20s reportedly trust Comedy Central's Jon Stewart for political news more than they do CBS' Dan Rather and ABC's Peter Jennings.

NBC's Tom Brokaw ranked first with 17 percent of the vote in the survey of trusted TV news sources, followed by 16 percent earned by Stewart, whose fake news show is a Comedy Central favorite.

Although Stewart beat Rather and Jennings, the majority of the people surveyed -- 26 percent -- checked "none of the above," the New York Daily News reported Tuesday.

ABC's Jennings received 15 percent of the votes, followed by Rather's 10 percent.

The study was commissioned by Declare Yourself, a nonprofit organization spearheaded by TV producer Norman Lear and aimed at generating young voters' interest.

The poll also showed voters aged 18 to 29 turned out in large numbers, voting for Democrat John Kerry over President Bush by 62 percent to 35 percent.

Declare Yourself said a nationally representative sample of 1,201 people between 18 and 29 years of age were surveyed by telephone Nov. 9-10. The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 2.8 percentage points.
