Bush presents arts, humanities awards

WASHINGTON, Nov. 17 (UPI) -- U.S. President George Bush Wednesday presented awards to recipients of the National Medal of Arts and National Humanities Medal.

Recipients of the National Endowment for the Arts award were: the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, arts patron; author Ray Bradbury; opera composer Carlisle Floyd; the late Frederick "Rick" Hart, sculptor; the late Anthony Hecht, poet; wildlife artist John Ruthven ; Vincent Scully, architectural historian; and dancer/producer/choreographer Twyla Tharp.

Winners of the National Endowment for Humanities award were: educator Marva Collins, author Gertrude Himmelfarb, author/art critic Hilton Kramer, author Madeleine L'Engle, Government Professor Harvey Mansfield, philosopher John Searle, scholar Shelby Steele and the United States Capitol Historical Society.
