Man stabbed at hip-hop awards show

SANTA MONICA, Calif., Nov. 16 (UPI) -- A man was stabbed at the hip-hop's Vibe Awards in Santa Monica, the Los Angeles Times reported Tuesday.

The paper said chaos broke out during the ceremony at a hangar at Santa Monica Airport after rap pioneer Dr. Dre was apparently punched in the face and the Grammy-winning producer/rapper's bodyguards set upon the attacker.

Dre had been sitting at a front row table and was being introduced by composer Quincy Jones and rapper Snoop Dogg as the recipient of Vibe magazine's Vibe Legend Award -- when a man walked up and punched him.

Santa Monica police said one man was stabbed in the chaos that followed. Police summoned reinforcements from neighboring law enforcement agencies to help control the situation.

The stabbing victim was identified only as a 26-year-old Los Angeles man. He was reported in stable condition.

The ceremony resumed after order was restored. The second annual Vibe Awards presentation was taped for telecast Tuesday night on UPN.
