Paul Reubens returns as Pee-wee Herman

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 10 (UPI) -- U.S. actor Paul Reubens will resume his Pee-wee Herman characterization after a 13-year break with the Thursday DVD release of kids' show "Pee-wee's Playhouse."

Five seasons of the popular Saturday morning show will be released, with Rubens hoping the DVDs will garner a new generation of fans and revive the silly, red-cheeked character, E! Online reported Wednesday.

"I'm really proud of both the Pee-wee movies and the television series, and now I'm thinking of taking Pee-wee into the future," he said. "The first movie will be 25 years old next year, which is freaky. It seems like yesterday."

The actor had just taken a break from his popular character when he was arrested in 1991 for indecent exposure -- an incident that derailed Reubens' career.

The actor now has plans for two films, a satire about the downside of fame that Reubens plans to begin filming next summer, and a big-screen version of "Pee-wee's Playhouse."
