LOS ANGELES, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Rosario Dawson will star in the upcoming movie version of the Tony-winning Broadway show "Rent," The Hollywood Reporter said Monday.
The paper said Dawson will play Mimi Marquez, a Latina stripper who has both AIDS and a drug dependency, in the movie adaptation of Jonathan Larson's play. Chris Columbus ("Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," "Mrs. Doubtfire") is directing.
According to the report, Taye Diggs, Jesse L. Martin, Adam Pascal, Anthony Rapp and Idina Menzel are in talks to reprise their roles from the Broadway production in the film version. Shooting is expected to begin next spring.
