Awards don't mean much to Toby Keith

PITTSBURGH, Nov. 8 (UPI) -- Toby Keith says he doesn't care if he wins any of the six Country Music Association Awards he's up for Tuesday.

"They don't affect my career one way or another," says the outspoken singer and songwriter, whose half-dozen nominations include Entertainer of the Year as well as Album of the Year and Male Vocalist of the Year.

"It took me eight years of busting my hump and selling-out shows to even be recognized, so I'm not one of their media or industry darlings. I never expect anything. If I get one, I thank the lord and am kind about it and move on. Those things mean a lot more to the fans than they do to the artist."

The 38th annual CMA Awards take place Tuesday at the Grand Ole Opry House in Nashville and will be broadcast at 8 p.m. EST on CBS. Keith is among the evening's performers. Keith also releases his "Greatest Hits 2" album Tuesday, which features the new hit "Stays in Mexico" and a duet with his teenage daughter Krystal on "Mockingbird."
