CBS picks up 'CSI: NY'

LOS ANGELES, Nov. 5 (UPI) -- "CSI: NY" is assured of a full-season run on CBS, now that the network has picked it up for 10 more episodes, Daily Variety reported Friday.

The show has averaged 16.7 million viewers over five episodes in its freshman season. It has even beaten its rival -- the long-running, Emmy-winning "Law & Order" on NBC.

"CSI: NY" -- starring Gary Sinise and Melina Kanakaredes as forensic investigators in New York City -- has the third-highest ratings for a new drama on TV, behind ABC's new hits "Lost" and "Desperate Housewives."

It is the first freshman drama to get a full-season pickup from CBS, and Variety said it might well be the only new drama to get that sort of commitment from the network.

CBS recently pulled the new Rob Lowe drama "Dr. Vegas" from its prime time schedule and shifted "Clubhouse" to Saturdays after lackluster ratings.
