Election Day album has political message

DETROIT, Nov. 2 (UPI) -- The members of A Perfect Circle figure it's never too late to make a political comment -- even on Election Day in the United States.

The hard rock group's new album, "eMOTIVe," features mostly covers of protest songs such as John Lennon's "Imagine," Marvin Gaye's "What's Going On," Joni Mitchell's "Fiddle and the Drum" and Nick Lowe's (What's So Funny Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding," among others. Singer Maynard James Keenan says it was quicker to put together an album of covers rather than come up with all new songs.

"I've been trying to figure out a way to get a political album out in time to express some views," he says. "It was kind of tough to pull it off. The idea of the covers just made more sense. There are some powerful artists out there who just made some bold statements and statements from the heart, and I figured that would be a better way to go."

A Perfect Circle will not tour to support "eMOTIVe." Keenan, in fact, is preparing to hit the studio with his other band, Tool, to record a new album.
