Ashlee's problem good medicine

NEW YORK, Oct. 27 (UPI) -- Makers of acid reflux medicine are pleased with Ashlee Simpson's televised lip-synching debacle, the Scoop reported Wednesday.

Simpson told the "Today" show she didn't sing live on NBC's Saturday Night Live because her voice was hoarse from "severe acid reflux," an explanation that gladdens marketers of acid reflux medications such as Nexium and Prevacid.

"Somebody of her high profile helps raise the profile of the disease," said David Albaugh of AstraZeneca, makers of Nexium.

TAP, the company that makes Prevacid, said celebrities who talk about their health problems can help people with similar ailments.

"We wish Ashlee Simpson the very best on her road to relief from acid reflux," TAP said in a statement.

Neither company said there are plans to ask Simpson to be their anti-acid reflux celebrity spokeswoman.
