BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Oct. 26 (UPI) -- John Mellencamp says that the new "Words & Music: John Mellencamp's Greatest Hits" retrospective has given him some valuable insight into his career.
"Honestly I feel like, man, I have written some really good songs, and on the other hand I feel like, boy, I have written some really (bad) songs," explains the Indiana rocker, who began his career as Johnny Cougar. "There's a couple songs on there that I would not really put on the record, but they were hit records, so I feel like there must be fans of those someplace."
"Words & Music" features 39 songs from 1979-2004, including two new tracks co-produced by Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.
Mellencamp is a finalist on this year's Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ballot. The 2005 inductees will be announced in the next few weeks.
