Fox will use DVD to promote new series

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 25 (UPI) -- Fox will use "The Family Guy" DVD release to promote the premiere of a new series on the U.S. TV network, Daily Variety said Monday.

The paper said the DVD will be released in a new package in December, called "Family Guy: The Freakin' Sweet Collection." The release will feature a preview of the upcoming new animated series "American Dad" and an interview with Seth MacFarlane, the creator of both "American Dad" and "Family Guy."

The disc will contain five of MacFarlane's favorite episodes from the second and third seasons of "Family Guy" -- including features such as the original, uncensored "Road to Rhode Island" with optional commentary by MacFarlane.

"American Dad" is about a gung-ho CIA employee whose odd household includes a space alien and a goldfish that speaks German, Variety said.

"Family Guy" is getting a fourth season on Fox, after its phenomenal sales performance on DVD. The show had been canceled after only three seasons from 1999-2001.
