LONDON, Oct. 24 (UPI) -- Former disc jockey turned musical writer, Mike Read, whose musical "Oscar Wilde" closed last week in London after one night, is blaming the venue.
"I should not have allowed it to open at the Shaw Theatre, only after we started rehearsals did I discover that it had no online booking or proper telephone sales facilities," Read told the Sunday Telegraph.
"It was very difficult for people to actually get tickets. In fact, the only way that they could get them was when they traveled to the theater."
"Oscar Wilde," starring Peter Blake as the Irish playwright and Jonathan Tatum as Bosie or Lord Alfred Douglas, opened to bad reviews last Wednesday and closed the next day after just five of the 466 seats had been sold for Thursday's performance.
"Other shows such as 'Tonight's the Night' and 'We Will Rock You' survive bad reviews because they build up huge advance sales," he added. "That wasn't an option for us because of the theater's poor facilities."
