Museum plans 'Totems to Turquoise' exhibit

NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- The American Museum of Natural History in New York is planning an exhibition featuring more than 500 pieces of Native American jewelry and artifacts.

"Totems to Turquoise: Native North American Jewelry Arts of the Northwest and Southwest" is scheduled to run from Oct. 30 through July 10.

Designed to celebrate the beauty, power and symbolism of modern Native jewelry arts, the museum said the exhibition includes 100 objects from its collection of Native American artifacts and also presents recent totem sculptures, traditional and modern masks and photographs and videos of Northwest Coast and Southwest traditions.
