Claire stunned by Billy's 'beauty'

NEW YORK, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- U.S. actress Claire Danes admits it took some time to get used to seeing her boyfriend Billy Crudup dressed as a woman in the new film "Stage Beauty."

In the movie, Crudup plays an Elizabethan-era stage actor who specializes in women's roles. Danes plays his dresser, an aspiring actress in a time when women were forbidden to act in public.

"It was very jarring initially," the 25-year-old actress recently said of Crudup's appearance in the film. "I grew accustomed to it after a certain point and didn't even flinch when I saw him in his orange dress and his skullcap and smeared lipstick. He looked pretty strange at certain points, but everyone looked extraordinary. ... We were all transported to another culture and environment and I accepted it as my reality for a while."

Danes also said she got a kick out of the fact her beau had to spend more time in the makeup chair for the film than she did.

"I got to gloat a little, like: 'See ya later. I'm going back to my trailer,'" she laughed.
