LOS ANGELES, Oct. 21 (UPI) -- ABC renewed "Jimmy Kimmel Live," ending months of speculation the U.S. network might cancel the late night offering.
ABC officials said Wednesday Kimmel's talk show would be on the air until 2006, the New York Post reported Thursday.
Kimmel's fate has been questioned since ABC Chairman Lloyd Braun, a fan of the late night host, left earlier this year.
"You never know when you get new management staff. The inclination is usually to clear out stuff the person before them did, and I think it's to their credit that they didn't do that," Kimmel said.
"It's especially great news because I've got about 27 members of my family working on the show and a cancellation would not only be trouble for me, but it would've bankrupted my entire family tree. I'm glad they didn't chop it down," he said.
"Jimmy Kimmel Live" used to air live, but now tapes at 8 p.m. PDT to give censors time to check for inappropriate material.
