Disney puts 'Haunted' tombstone on eBay

ANAHEIM, Calif., Oct. 19 (UPI) -- Disneyland is offering to sell a personalized tombstone at its Haunted Mansion attraction by an auction on eBay.

The resort first posted the offer Oct. 14. As of Tuesday afternoon the bidding had reached $37,000. Bidding is scheduled to end Oct. 21 at 6 p.m. EDT.

Proceeds will benefit selected chapters of the Boys and Girls Club of America.

The winner of the eBay auction will be memorialized on a "tombstone" in the grave yard area of Disneyland's Haunted Mansion -- the first time the public has ever had the opportunity to become a permanent part of a Disneyland attraction.

The gravestone will bear the winner's first name and a humorous epitaph -- based on the winner's interests and hobbies -- written and personalized by the staff of Walt Disney Imagineering, the creative organization that designed and develops the attraction.

The honorary ghost also gets a miniature replica of the tombstone, a certificate of recognition as an honorary resident of the Haunted Mansion and a trip for two to Disneyland for a midnight "wake" and "burial" ceremony.
