Dodgers pitcher Lima sings too

LOS ANGELES, Oct. 13 (UPI) -- Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Jose Lima revealed a talent for singing at Los Angeles' Conga Room recently, doing a 30-minute set of salsa and meringue tunes.

Lima had just pitched the Dodgers to a 4-0 win over the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League playoffs, when he, his wife and some friends went to the Conga Room to celebrate. When bandleader Armando Vasquez asked Lima from the stage, "Can you sing as well as you can pitch?" Lima jumped onto the bandstand and let it rip -- singing such Latin classics as "LLoraran" and "La dueƱa del swing."

Actor Jimmy Smits -- a Conga Room co-owner along with Jennifer Lopez, Paul Rodriguez, Sheila E., Bobby Bonilla and others -- was in the crowd with actress Wanda de Jesus.

Brad Gluckstein, the club's founder and managing partner said Lima has a standing offer to come back and perform any time.

"He has a profound knowledge of syncopation and phrasing mixed with Caribbean soul," Gluckstein said.
