'Dazed' filmmaker sued over characters

ALBUQUERQUE, Oct. 11 (UPI) -- Three men who went to high school in Texas with Richard Linklater have filed suit saying the filmmaker used them as characters in "Dazed and Confused."

The men claim in a lawsuit filed in New Mexico, the negative characterizations in the film caused them "relentless harassment, embarrassment and ridicule," the Albuquerque Journal reported Monday.

When plaintiff Bobby Wooderson's son's classmates at Harvard University learned he was the basis for the film's pot-puffing character David Wooderson, "all the kids there wanted to do was smoke pot with him," said Santa Fe attorney Bill Robins III, who filed the suit.

The lawsuit goes into great detail in describing how the movie allegedly defamed Wooderson, Andy Slater as Ron Slater and Richard "Pink" Floyd, named Randall "Pink" Floyd in the film.

"At no time did Plaintiffs ever agree or consent to the use of their names or likenesses," the suit said.

Linklater or his attorney have yet to comment on the suit.
