Matthews band seeks to inspire on tour

STATE COLLEGE, Pa., Oct. 1 (UPI) -- The members of the Dave Matthews Band hope their participation in the Vote For Change tour will provide some encouragement for their voting-age fans.

"We felt compelled that we had to sort of stand up and say something," said violinist Boyd Tinsley. "I think people that see that we're out on this tour will recognize that if the Dave Matthews Band, if Bruce Springsteen, maybe if Bonnie Raitt's going out there, maybe we should take a look at this. Maybe we should take this election seriously and really consider what's at stake here."

The DMB is playing five Vote For Change dates with Ben Harper & the Innocent Criminals, Jurassic 5 and My Morning Jacket starting Friday in State College, Pa. The four groups will also take part in the all-star tour finale on Oct. 11 in Washington, D.C.

The tour features 19 artists playing 37 shows in 11 swing states to encourage attendees to vote President Bush out of office. The tour is being produced by the MoveOn Political Action Committee, with proceeds benefiting America Coming Together (ACT).
