Studios plans Sci-Fi comedy

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Paramount is laying plans for a Sci-Fi comedy about a visitor to Earth from outer space who turns out to be a spaceship himself, Daily Variety said Tuesday.

The paper said the screenplay for "Starship Dave," written by Rob Greenberg and Bill Corbett, begins with a massive fireball landing in New York's Central Park. An apparently ordinary man who walks away from the fireball unscathed turns out to be a spacecraft operated by aliens who look like humans, but are just 1/4 inch tall and on a mission to save their planet.

Greenberg was a writer on the TV series "Frasier" and "Becker." Corbett was a writer, and the voice of the robot "Crow" on "Mystery Science Theater 3000."

The project will be co-produced by Jon Berg and Todd Komarnicki, who were part of the team that produced "Elf," a box-office hit for Will Ferrell in 2003.

"When we read the script, it reminded us of the first moment that we read 'Elf,'" Komarnicki said.
