Kidman is OK with Bacall's critique

NEW YORK, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Nicole Kidman is "thrilled" her "Birth" co-star Lauren Bacall rejected the idea that Kidman is a screen legend, gossip columnist Liz Smith said Tuesday.

The issue came up earlier this month at the Venice Film Festival, when Kidman and Bacall were being interviewed about the film, and the interviewer called Kidman a legend.

"She's not a legend," Bacall said. "She's a beginner. What is this 'legend'? She can't be a legend at whatever age she is."

Smith reported that Kidman's response was gracious.

"I was thrilled that she dismissed the legend stuff," said Kidman. "To put me in a category I don't belong burdens me. I telephoned Lauren and thanked her. She always calls it like it is, and that's a reality check I adore."

Kidman stars in "Birth" as a woman who is convinced a 10-year-old boy is her dead husband reincarnated.
