PARIS, Sept. 28 (UPI) -- Brigitte Bardot is downplaying her 70th birthday Tuesday.

"I would prefer turning 30," Sky News quotes her as saying. "I am going to drink a glass of champagne, receive two or three friends."

Bardot gave up her film career in 1973 after gaining fame in movies such as "And God Created Woman" and "Le Mepris."

Since then she has concentrated on campaigning for animal rights and is known for her views on immigration and homosexuality. She paid a $6,100 fine in June for controversial comments about Muslims in the book "A Cry in the Silence."

In an interview with the French magazine "Ohla!," Bardot indicated aging doesn't really bother her.

"There is a crazy wind blowing today; women want to stay young and are turning to surgery. They all look the same," she said.
