HOUSTON, Sept. 27 (UPI) -- Country western singer Ray Price was recovering Monday from weekend heart surgery in a Houston hospital.

He had the surgery Saturday after he complained of chest pains last week.

"Ray has come (through) the surgery just fine and will be better then ever," said Sandra Orwig, who has been updating Price's condition on his official fan club Web site. "He feels better then he has in a long, long time."

The singer, who became a member of Nashville's Grand Ole Opry in 1952, recently completed recording a new album, "My Old Friend."

He had been scheduled to be on tout beginning Oct. 2, but it's unknown when he will be able to return performing, Billboard.com.
