Off-track betting for N.M. couch potatoes

ALBUQUERQUE, Sept. 23 (UPI) -- Comcast Digital Cable is offering customers in Albuquerque and a dozen other markets an all-horse-racing channel complete with betting privileges.

The Television Games Network's gaming opportunities were also recently added to the cable company's list of services in Los Angeles, Tucson, Seattle and Chicago, the Albuquerque Journal reported.

But the legality of the Los Angeles-based network is coming under government scrutiny in New Mexico.

State law declares, "Pari-mutuel wagering on simulcasted races shall be prohibited except at licensed New Mexico race tracks."

Racing Commission Executive Director India Hatch said Wednesday she will ask Attorney General Patricia Madrid to investigate the at-home betting network.
