Hollywood plans superhero spoof

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 21 (UPI) -- "Scary Movie 3" filmmakers are planning a sendup of superhero movies, Daily Variety said Tuesday.

The paper said Dimension Films has put director David Zucker, writer Craig Mazin and producer Robert Weiss to work on "Superhero!" -- envisioned as a spoof on currently popular superhero pictures. In recent years, Hollywood has turned out -- or is now in production on -- such superhero movies as "Spider-Man," "Daredevil," "X-Men," "Fantastic Four" and "Batman Begins."

Mazin, Zucker and Weiss have already been working on "Scary Movie 4" -- continuing the franchise's growing tradition of satires on horror movies and thrillers such as "The Ring," "Signs" and "Scream."

"When you write these films, you have to watch every movie that came out, and we realized the superhero genre was really ripe," Zucker said.

The paper said "Superhero!" will probably go into production next spring, with "Scary Movie 4" to follow.
