LOS ANGELES, Sept. 20 (UPI) -- Kelsey Grammer won the Emmy for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series at the 56th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards in Los Angeles Sunday.

Grammer won for his performance as Dr. Frasier Crane, in the 11th and final season of "Frasier" on NBC. It was Grammer's fourth Emmy for playing the character, which brought him 12 nominations overall, including three for his performances in the former NBC series "Cheers" and "Wings."

Grammer's win Sunday -- coupled with a supporting actor Emmy for "Frasier" co-star David Hyde Pierce -- ran "Frasier's" all-time Emmy record to 37, more than any other show in the history of prime time TV.
