NEW YORK, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- George Englund, a long-time confident of Marlon Brando, will write a book about his relationship with the late actor, HarperCollins Publishers said Tuesday.

"The Way It's Never Been Before," published by the HarperCollins imprint HarperEntertainment, is scheduled to hit stores Oct. 26. Englund produced and directed Brando's 1963 drama "The Ugly American."

In a statement released by the publisher, Englund said he hoped the book would honor "the Marlon Brando I have known so intimately almost all my adult life, that reflects the quality and manliness of our friendship."

Englund said he had known for some time before Brando's death in July the Hollywood icon was seriously ill, and he "participated in some of the medical decisions" during Brando's final weeks.

"On our last afternoon together, we were able to sort out some last thoughts and we parted lovingly," said Englund. "I have Marlon's dignity and love in my hands and I will treat that responsibility with the sacredness he and I showed to our friendship."
