LONDON, Sept. 14 (UPI) -- Classical singer Charlotte Church reportedly wants to be a pop star like Madonna, the British teen's mother said.
Church will release her first pop album next month, a departure from the classical music that made the 18-year-old famous, Britain's Sun reported Tuesday.
"Charlotte admires Madonna. Now she wants to try a bit of that -- but I don't think she'll stop there. I hope she'll be bigger than her heroine," Maria Church told the Sun. "There's not a sniff of classical music on the album. Charlotte's moved away from the 'sweet little girl' image. She's turned into a young woman."
The new project includes a song, "Casualty of Love," about Church's ex-boyfriend Steven Johnson, 19, a relationship the singer's mom publicly disapproved of because she thought Johnson was after her daughter's money.
In the lyrics Church said she "never loved" Johnson and added "Mama was right."
