Robbie Williams turns down 'Oz' role

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 13 (UPI) -- British singer Robbie Williams reportedly turned down a $1 million role in Broadway's "Boy from Oz" because the character is gay.

Williams was offered the part, but his agent is looking for a role that is more macho to dispel rumors the singer is homosexual, Sky News reported Monday.

"Robbie was offered ($100,000) a week for a 10-week run, but the character was blatantly homosexual and Robbie balked at that. There have been so many gay rumors surrounding him that he didn't want to get typecast as a gay character. He wants his first big role in America to be more macho," said an unidentified source.

Williams would have taken over the role from Hugh Jackman, who has starred in the Broadway musical since it opened last October.

The 30-year-old entertainer's agent reportedly asked MGM about finding a part for Williams in the next James Bond movie.
