Injured Vegas star misses show business

NEW YORK, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Roy Horn of Siegfried & Roy who nearly died last October when mauled by one of the tigers in their Las Vegas act, says he misses show business.

"Roy is very open about missing his show and missing the audience and missing that interaction," said Maria Shriver, who interviewed Horn for the first time since the accident for "Siegfried & Roy: The Miracle," an NBC special airing Wednesday.

Horn was mauled by Montecore, a 380-pound trained tiger, which grabbed his neck and dragged him offstage, shocking a sold-out crowd at the Mirage hotel-casino.

"I think he looks terrific," Shriver said. "Is he the same Roy as he was a year ago? Absolutely not. But in his mind he's a better Roy."

What surprised Shriver the most, she told the New Hork Daily News, was Horn's sense of optimism.

"It is stunning and miraculous that he is up and talking and dreaming and planning and working toward a new future today," she said.

John Ritter clan files wrongful death suit

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- The late John Ritter's family filed a lawsuit against the California hospital where the actor died, alleging doctors could have saved him, it was reported.

Ritter's wife, Amy Yasbeck, the couple's daughter, Stella, and the actor's children from his first marriage, Carly, Tyler and Jason, filed a medical malpractice and wrongful death suit in Los Angeles Superior Court last week against Providence St. Joseph Medical Center in Burbank, Calif., E! Online reported.

Ritter died Sept. 11, 2003, at age 54 after being rushed to the hospital from the set of his ABC sitcom "8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter."

Cause of death was listed as aortic aneurysm, but the suit said he was misdiagnosed twice. The hospital and its staff "caused the untimely death of (Ritter) by misdiagnosing his condition and, as a consequence, failing to provide proper treatment ... that would have saved his life," the suit said.

The family seeks general damages, wrongful death damages, medical expenses and funeral and burial expenses.

Noah Wyle is ready to exit 'E.R.'

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Noah Wyle, the last remaining original cast member on NBC's "E.R." says he's ready to exit his role as Dr. John Carter.

"(I've got) this little urge to scratch a different kind of itch in my career, and it's just coming to the end of the character's run," Wyle told cable's "E! News Live."

Wyle, 33, will return for "E.R.'s" 11th season, premiering Sept. 23, but the actor makes no promises about a 12th season, following in the footsteps of George Clooney, Eriq La Salle, Anthony Edwards and Julianna Margulies who have already left the show.

"It feels like the show is on the edge of reinventing itself. It's time to take it to that next evolutionary place, where names like George and Tony, Eriq, Julianna and Noah are a thing of the past, and names like Shane, Linda and Parminder are a thing of the future," Wyle said, referring to new cast members Shane West, Linda Cardellini and Parminder Nagra.

CBS cancels planned Madonna concert

BURBANK, Calif., Sept. 10 (UPI) -- CBS has canceled plans to televise a Madonna concert, according to a report on the TV tabloid "Access Hollywood."

Plans had called for taping of a concert from the singer's current "Reinvention" tour in Lisbon, Portugal, next week, with the tape to be played back at an unspecified date. "Access Hollywood" said the telecast was canceled when the network and the singer were unable to reach agreement on terms of the deal.

"The special is not happening," said a CBS publicist. "CBS wanted the concert to fit into a two-hour format. Madonna said it could not be done, so the special has been canceled."

The publicist confirmed Madonna had wanted to concert to air without commercial interruption, and the network was not willing to do that.

A representative for the singer confirmed the deal fell through, but said there were "many reasons why."

Madonna has appeared in three televised concert specials for HBO -- "Madonna Live: The Drowned World Tour" (2001), "Madonna -- Live Down Under: The Girlie Show" (1993) and "Madonna -- Live! Blonde Ambition World Tour '90" (1990).
