LOS ANGELES, Sept. 10 (UPI) -- Universal Pictures has commissioned a screenplay based on the explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, Daily Variety said Friday.
The paper said Gavin and Greg O'Connor will write "Clark & Lewis," described as a revisionist take on the Lewis & Clark expedition in search of the mythical Northwest Passage.
Gavin O'Connor ("Miracle") will direct and Greg O'Connor will produce. Gavin O'Connor told the paper he and his brother think there is an undiscovered epic in the story.
"They were this country's first astronauts," he said. "They were the first white men to really explore the West, the first white men the Indians had ever seen. We want to do an epic with humor and a buddy-picture quality."
The Lewis & Clark expedition observed its 200th anniversary earlier this year. The pair of explorers left behind voluminous journals describing their travels.
