Philadelphia marks Rodin Museum's 75th

PHILADELPHIA, Sept. 7 (UPI) -- Philadelphia is celebrating the 75th anniversary of its Rodin Museum this week with a new installation of his sculptures from the United States and France.

The museum, devoted to the sculpture of French artist Auguste Rodin (1840-1917), opened in November 1929. It is located on the grand avenue approach to the Philadelphia Museum of Art, which administers the museum and houses one of the world's finest collections of 19th century sculpture and the only one devoted to Rodin outside of France, with the exception of the Rodin Museum in Tokyo.

It will illustrate Rodin's working methods and the development of several of his major themes including "The Gates of Hell," the design for a bronze door for Paris' Museum of Decorative Arts that was left unfinished at his death.
