Sotheby's ready for Cash/Carter auction

NEW YORK, Sept. 6 (UPI) -- Everything from canceled checks to musical instruments will be on the auction block when Sotheby's of New York liquidates the estate of Johnny Cash.

The sale gets under way Sept. 13, the one-year anniversary of the death of country music's man in black, the New York Daily News reported Monday.

The three-day sale will also include items from the estate of Cash's wife, June Carter Cash.

More than 750 items are listed in the 300-page catalogue including a 1930s-era "fiddle guitar" expected to fetch $10,000 to $20,000, the newspaper said.

There are also several rare recordings, handwritten lyrics, a letter from Carl Perkins and Cash's black 2002 Ford truck with only 15,000 miles on it.

Sotheby's told the Daily News Cash and Carter arranged for the sale several years ago.

"They wanted to find a way to share some of their memorabilia and possessions with their public," Leila Dunbar of Sotheby's said, and "reduce the family burden of maintaining so many collectibles for generations to come."
