LOS ANGELES, Sept. 4 (UPI) -- Five-time Latin Grammy nominee Tom Capone, a Brazilian music producer, died of multiple injuries in a motorcycle crash in Los Angeles at age 37.
Capone died Wednesday night after his rented motorcycle and a sedan collided in Sherman Oaks, Calif., hours after being shut out of Latin Recording Academy awards show.
The 23-year-old woman driving the car was not injured, the BBC reported.
Capone, a resident of Rio de Janeiro, is being tested to see if he had been drinking. Police said Capone had been wearing a "novelty helmet" that would have provided little protection for his head.
Police said Capone may have run red light.
"Somebody ran a red light," he said. "The only person still alive says she didn't run a red light."
Capone, whose real name was Luis Antonio Ferreira Goncalves,
produced award-winning albums for Brazilian singer Maria Rita and the rock band Skank.
He is survided by his wife, son, and two children from a previous marriage.
