NASHVILLE, Aug. 31 (UPI) -- Dolly Parton received the American Legion's Good Guy Award for her work with women's health, literacy and education in her native east Tennessee.
Parton was presented Monday with the James V. Day Good Guy Award, a bronze plaque, in a ceremony attended by 300 Legionnaires in Nashville for the American Legion's annual convention, the Nashville Tennessean reports.
"I don't know if I'm a good guy or not, but I try to be. I think there's a heart in this chest. Maybe that's why my boobs are so big, Parton said to the predominantly male audience.
Parton, a world renowned singer, songwriter, actress and record producer, was honored for her work with the Dollywood Foundation, providing educational opportunities for Sevier County, Tenn., students.
She also was recognized for the Dolly Parton Wellness and Rehabilitation Center of Sevier County Medical Center and the Dolly Parton Imagination Library.
Parton started the Imagination Library, providing a book monthly until a child turns 5, in east Tennessee, but the program has now grown to more than 35 states.
