Shortlist Music Prize nominees announced

NEW YORK, Aug. 24 (UPI) -- Franz Ferdinand, Wilco, Dizzee Rascal and Loretta Lynn are among the 73 artists nominated for the 2004 Shortlist Music Prize in the United States.

The list of 73 nominations for the award to honor outside-the-mainstream artists was produced by 20 "listmakers," including Chris Carrabba, Josh Homme, Jack Black, John Mayer, Serj Tankian and Norah Jones.

The award winner will be announced Nov. 10 during a concert at the Wiltern in Los Angeles.

MTV2 will air a special that includes concert footage from the awards ceremony, while XM Satellite Radio, this year's radio sponsor, will award the winner $5,000, MTV.com reported.

To be eligible for nomination albums must have been released between July 1, 2003 and June 30, 2004 and must not have been certified gold -- for sales of more than 500,000 units -- at the time of the nomination.
