Fox moves 'Champ' ahead of court date

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 23 (UPI) -- Fox has rescheduled the premiere of a controversial new reality series -- to one day before a scheduled court hearing on an injunction to keep it off the air.

A Los Angeles judge declined last week to issue an order barring the network from going ahead with its boxing show, "The Next Great Champ." The judge scheduled a hearing for Sept. 8 -- two days before the show was set to premiere -- to consider the question of whether to issue a temporary restraining order.

The judge is hearing a suit brought by NBC against Fox, alleging Fox's show violates California regulations governing boxing.

Fox -- which had originally scheduled the premiere for Sept. 10 -- has now announced that "The next Great Champ" will launch on Sept. 7.

NBC announced earlier this year that it would air its own reality boxing show, "The Contender." NBC filed the suit after Fox subsequently announced "The Next Great Champ" -- then rushed production so it could get its show on the air ahead of NBC's show.
