LOS ANGELES, Aug. 20 (UPI) -- Actress Madchen Amick has been cast as Dr. John Carter's new love interest, his third in as many seasons, on NBC's popular U.S. drama "E.R."

Amick, set to first appear in episode four of the series, will have a recurring guest spot as a social worker who falls for Noah Wyle's character, E! Online reported Friday.

Amick, a model who has acted on TV's "Twin Peaks," "Ed" and "Gilmore Girls," also reportedly is starring opposite "Full House" star John Stamo in an as-yet-untitled series set to launch next year.

"E.R." producers have not said if Thandie Newton, the actress who played Carter's love last season, will return when "E.R." starts its 11th season Sept. 23.

In last season's finale, Newton's character, Makemba Likasu, who was pregnant with Carter's child, lost the baby she was carrying.
