More 'supervillain' clashes planned

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17 (UPI) -- New Line Cinema is considering bringing Freddy Krueger and Jason Voorhees back for another clash of "supervillains," the Hollywood Reporter said Tuesday.

The paper said the studio was considering such a move even before 20th Century Fox's "Alien vs. Predator" came in at No. 1 at the U.S. box office in its opening weekend. "Freddy vs. Jason" came in at No. 1 when it opened in August 2003 and went on to gross $82.2 million at the U.S. box office.

Citing sources, The Reporter said the studio is in talks with producer-director Sam Raimi for a project called "Freddy vs. Jason vs. Ash." The picture would have Freddy and Jason confront Ash, the cynical anti-hero survivor of Raimi's "Evil Dead" trilogy.

Bruce Campbell played the character in the trilogy, and the paper said he would play him again if the Freddy-Jason-Ash movie gets made. Raimi would not direct the new project.
